Technical Writer Expert

Technical writers build expert-level evaluation and training data for frontier AI labs. Paid hourly, fully remote, fully async.

AfterQuery partners with frontier AI labs to build expert-level evaluation and training data. We are hiring technical writers as contractors to review, create, and rank documentation that teaches AI models how to explain complex systems clearly. You will evaluate AI-generated API references, how-to guides, release notes, and user documentation for accuracy, structure, and clarity, and create expert demonstrations drawn from your own practice. The work is paid hourly, fully remote, and fully async - you choose when and how much you work.

Commitment: 10 hours/week | Pay: $45 - $90/hr | Type: Contract

Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI-generated documentation for accuracy, structure, and clarity
• Create expert demonstrations of API references, how-to guides, and release notes
• Rank and label model responses against documentation best practices

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional technical writing experience
• Portfolio of documentation you have owned (API docs, guides, manuals, or release notes)
• Ability to explain complex technical systems clearly and accurately

Preferred Qualifications

• Software, API, or developer documentation experience
• Docs-as-code fluency (Markdown, Git, static site generators)
• STC certification or a technical degree
