Environmental Scientist & Engineer Expert

Environmental scientists and engineers build expert-level evaluation and training data for frontier AI labs. Paid hourly, fully remote, fully async.

AfterQuery partners with frontier AI labs to build expert-level evaluation and training data. We are hiring environmental scientists and environmental engineers as contractors to review, create, and rank technical content that teaches AI models how real environmental work is done. You will evaluate AI-generated site assessments, permitting and compliance analysis, remediation design, air and water quality modeling, and impact studies for technical accuracy, and create expert demonstrations drawn from your own practice. The work is paid hourly, fully remote, and fully async - you choose when and how much you work.

Commitment: 10 hours/week | Pay: $70 - $130/hr | Type: Contract

Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI-generated environmental analysis for technical and regulatory accuracy
• Create expert demonstrations of site assessment, permitting, and remediation workflows
• Rank and label model responses against environmental standards and regulations

Required Qualifications

• Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, geology, hydrology, or a closely related field
• 2+ years of professional environmental work (assessment, permitting, compliance, remediation, or modeling)
• Strong written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PE license, PG license, or CHMM certification
• Experience with NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, or Clean Water Act work
• Fluency with modeling or GIS tools (AERMOD, MODFLOW, ArcGIS)
