Chemistry Expert

We are looking for chemists to help train and evaluate AI models on chemical reasoning. You will design rigorous chemistry questions, review AI responses for scientific accuracy and chemical validity, and write reference responses.

Key Responsibilities

• Design rigorous, domain-relevant chemistry questions.
• Review AI responses for scientific accuracy, logical consistency and chemical validity.
• Write reference responses with clear justification covering reaction mechanisms, experimental design and data interpretation.
• Review chemistry data, questions and solutions from other experts for accuracy and completeness.
• Document errors in model reasoning and explain the correct approach.
• Provide structured written feedback aligned with current best practice.
• Follow project guidelines, take part in calibration and review sessions, and incorporate feedback to keep quality consistent.

Requirements

• PhD (or doctoral candidate or postdoc) in chemistry or a closely related field, or a Master's plus 4+ years of professional experience.
• Strong grounding in core subdisciplines (organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, computational).
• Excellent written English.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications, peer-review or curriculum-development experience.
• Prior AI or data annotation experience.
• Experience writing for a non-specialist audience.

• Do not write, request or submit synthesis routes, formulations, quantities or operational details for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive weapons, or for illicit drugs.
• If a task, a model output or a guideline contains such content, stop, do not reproduce it, and report it to the project team.
• Safety-related answers must stay at the level of general hazard awareness and appropriate safety practice.
• Rex may reject or remove any submission that breaches these rules.

• All content you submit must be lawful, and you must have the right to share it.
• Do not submit confidential or proprietary material belonging to an employer, client or third party, or personal data without a lawful basis.
• Rex may verify identity, credentials, ownership and licensing; may reject or remove any submission; and may report unlawful submissions to the relevant authorities.
• Engagement and payment are subject to successful verification and to applicable sanctions, export-control, tax and employment laws.
• The contractor agreement will set out ownership and licence terms for the work you deliver (to be confirmed by Rex Legal).

Compensation

USD $50–150 per hour, adjusted by country of residence.
